Echoes (The Singing Vessel)

Terracotta, titanium dioxide, glaze, H25xW20D20 cm, 2022

This ceramic artwork represents a vessel that has gathered faces of our sociaty, carved on the walls of the vase - ordinary houshold object, present in almost every home, as the uncertainty, loss and pain that we have experienced in the past few years. From pandemic and natural disasters, to wars in the world and fast-approaching financial crisis.

While I was creating this vessel, I imagined that the clay faces are singing - adding each face was like adding another voice, my voice and yours, that have joint in an endless song. These voices, like liturgy, are echoing from the surface of the black glaze inside its belly. It's a container, a time capsule, like the ancient Egyptian pottery that has preserved until today and is telling us the great stories of the past. Perhaps, this vessel too is meant to become an antique and carry the memories of our times into the future.
