Irina Lomash is an interdisciplinary artist, based in Leeds, UK.

Irina Lomash was born in 1990 in post-soviet Latvia. Raised in a multicultural and bilingual environment, she completed her formal education in 2009. In the same year she moved to UK, where she settled and worked in medical and financial fields, before starting her career in Fine Art.

Irina Lomash has engaged in different types of art, originally spanning the areas of writing and music, she ultimately resolved to fully invest her creative energies into the practice of Fine Art. Following this decision, she undertook an HE Access Course in Art and Design in 2018 and further study of Fine Art at Leeds Arts University, that she graduated in 2022 with the first-class honours degree.

Inspired by her own lived experiences, recurring themes of estrangement and isolation can be observed in Irina’s work, these motifs forming the foundations for a number of pieces. Although these darker themes comprise a fundamental aspect of her creative output, they have also served as a means of artistic reflection and have thus allowed her to further hone both her practical skill and personal philosophy, instilling within her a new lease of life that emanates from her more recent works.

Influenced by the fields of Psycho-analysis, Existentialism and Anthropocene, Irina’s latest projects incorporate subjects that encapsulate the darker aspects of existentialism such as repression, self-destruction, and the intrinsic duality between life and death. These works serve as a vehicle to further elucidate and manifest the invisible struggles of the individual and ultimately acknowledge the potential for change that exists within us all.
