Shadows
This piece is from the series of work called ‘Perfect Circle’ that combine two art disciplines - painting and sculpture. Although, there is no element of traditional painting and the work is mainly sculptural, it is presented in the painting format by attaching sculptural figures onto the canvas.
The idea revolves around the theories like Psycho-analysis, Existentialism and Anthropocene - human as a destroyer, highlighting the themes of repression, self-destruction, mental struggles and values of life and death. It aims to bring to the surface the dark side of humanity with hope to acknowledge and change.
The greatest inspiration comes from death - admitting the mortality, however the work itself does not represent death. It is more of a moment before, a moment of realisation, revaluation. I believe that fear of death is the engine of life and my intention was to create a reminder that our life is fragile and it is worth living.
This work is a translation of the mental state into the physical form.
